Ibiza, Spanish Restaurant & Tapas Bar is named after a legendary Spanish island in the Mediterranean Sea which is famous for summer parties, great scenery, and delicious Spanish cuisine.
At Ibiza, you will find a wide range of truly Spanish creations from the kitchen and family recipe books of Chris Wise Diaz. He brings a world of Spanish cuisine and style to his new restaurant.
In the heart of Ghent
"Tapas" is the name for a wide variety of appetizers in Spanish cuisine. There are a number of legends regarding the origin of "Tapas". According to one popular legend "Tapas" which means "lid" or "cover" in Castellano Spanish first originated in 17th Century Spain. In an attempt to curb increasing public alcohol abuse in Spain, King Felipe III decreed that all taverns provide a small plate of food to cover their wine.
The patron had to consume the food to get to the wine, thus reducing public drunkenness, at least, in theory.
In America, many restaurateurs serve everyday appetizers and call them "Tapas".
At Ibiza, our Tapas is made of imported Spanish ingredients and spices and cooked in authentic Spanish tradition. Here you can choose from a wide variety of Spanish entrees and Tapas and enjoy a wide selection of fine wines from around the world.
Closed Monday - Saturday 2pm - 5pm for Siesta

I lived in Madrid for three years so I jumped at the chance to try Ibiza. I have been back twice since the initial visit. Its not Spain but its not bad either. The food is relatively authentic with just a few outliers. They could improve the fare across the board by bringing in authentic ingredients from Spain but... that would get expensive and drive up their currently quite reasonable prices (especially for lunch). Nice atmosphere (although nothing Spanish about it) but a difficult to find location - off 21st Street - in the heart of commercial Ghent. Give it a shot. I doubt you'll be disappointed.

When I heard that Ibiza was opening in downtown Norfolk, my piqued curiosity and nostalgia for European cuisine led me to try what they had to offer. The ambiance alone alleviated any doubt I had about the authenticity of its nomenclature, and I proceeded to decline a table in favor of the bar. I was welcomed by two gentleman behind the bar who presented me with a wine menu and a very impressive selection of tapas. Though most of the dishes were beyond my pronunciation, I proceeded as is custom for foreigners to point to the dishes that I thought sounded most appetizing. Three tapas later (I believe it was fried eggplant and the calamari which are always a safe bet), they brought me the tenderloin. I asked for a steak knife, but was kindly reassured that none was required. The fillet was sublime, covered in sautéed mushrooms and resting atop a bed of mashed potatoes, and my resolve to only eat half my entrée was quickly vetoed by gluttony and an appreciation for a perfectly good steak. My only complaint was towards my inability to sample the flan, but perhaps I'll dedicate my second visit to tasting more wines and appeasing my sweet tooth. With an unparalleled decor, personable staff and a cuisine as unique as the area they are located in, Ibiza stands to revolutionize Mediterranean cuisine in not only Ghent, but all of Hampton Roads.

We had made reservations for a very large party this past weekend, and our experience was wonderful. When we first walked in the atmosphere, as beautiful and intimate as it was, felt electric. There was a completely packed house with the patio filled up as well. The wait staff was very attentive and 100% helpful with any questions we had about the menu. Thinking that the food would take quite a while to prepare, considering our large party and the crowded restaurant, it was coming out faster than we had expected, And it was delicious! We ordered so many different tapas and there was honestly not one that we didn't like (the pollo relleno was my favorite). This was also my first time trying Spanish wine, and it accompanied the food to perfection. All in all, this was a unique and surprisingly delightful experience that we look forward to sharing with many more of our friends. **We did have a little trouble finding the restaurant. those of you looking online for directions, they are located on 20th st.

The restaurant opened last weekend so I didn't expect my experience to be perfect but it was far from it. We were seated in a booth in the corner of the restaurant that was so dimly lit that I could barely read the menu. The hostess lit a few candles which made no difference. I was excited to try the paella but the first thing the waitress told us was that we had to give them a 24 hour notice to prepare it. I made reservations and no one mentioned this to me on the phone and it was not stated on their myspace website. Our waitress was horrible. We ordered a bottle of wine and she couldn't get the cork out of it so she had to call for back-up. We saw her having the same problem at another table. She didn't know the menu well and when we asked what "cod on a bed of picadillo" was she said "picadillo" was a spice. According to the food dictionary at epicurious.com, "picadillo is a dish, a favorite in many Spanish-speaking countries, consisting of ground pork and beef or veal plus tomatoes, garlic, onions and whatever else the regional version dictates." Not just a bed of spice afterall. She didn't check on us very often and we ran out of drinks several times. We ended up ordering tapas. They were out of the scallops that were wrapped in spanish cured ham. So we ordered the shrimp that was supposed to wrapped in spanish cured ham. What we got was shrimp on a small piece of spanish cured ham. The gazpacho had too much garlic in it for my taste. The rest of the tapas were also mediocre for the price we paid. The Antano Tempranillo Rioja wine was the saving grace of the meal. The restaurant decor was very nice except for the lighting issue. Maybe if we had a different table and a different waitress, our experience would have been a little more pleasant. I will give it one more chance and this time I'll make sure I call ahead and order the paella in advance and skip the tapas.
